Harry F. Bell, Jr., of The Bell Law Firm, PLLC, in Charleston has been named national Plaintiff’s Co-Liaison Counsel in nationwide mass tort litigation involving the heart drug Digitek, consolidated in the United States District Court of the Southern District of West Virginia.
By Order issued by Chief Judge Joseph Robert Goodwin on September 26, 2008, Bell and South Carolina attorney Fred Thompson were selected to act as the liaison representatives of all plaintiffs and their attorneys who have filed Digitek suits in the United States. Their duties include serving as the go-between for all plaintiffs and all defendants for the exchange, distribution and filing of documents, maintaining and updating information on all parties and their attorneys, and to provide a centralized library of all documents filed and exchanged in the litigation to be available for review by those attorneys involved in the various consolidated Digitek cases.
Digitek is a drug used to treat heart failure and abnormal heart rhythms. A significant portion of the Digitek distributed for use contains double the potency intended for the drug. This defect in the drug is known to cause a variety of negative side effects including digestive, cardiovascular, and hypertension problems and conditions, and can cause death. Digitek has been recalled by its manufacturer, Actavis Totowa LLC.
