Haldol Lawsuit Attorney- Charleston, West Virginia HALDOL(Haloperidol): Reported cases of SERIOUS CARDIOVASCULAR INCIDENTS, INCLUDING SUDDEN DEATH, in patients injected with HALOPERIDOL have resulted in the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and drug manufacturer Johnson and Johnson informing doctors and other healthcare professionals that new WARNING has been added to prescribing information for the drug. The cardiovascular incidents reported, in addition to sudden death, include serious heart rhythm abnormalities caused by prolonged intervals in the electrical activity of the heart, known as prolonged QT interval syndrome, and the heart rhythm condition known as Torsades de pointes. HALOPERIDOL, sold as HALDOL, HALDOL DECANOATE, and HALDOL LACTATE, is given as an injection, and is prescribed for a variety of psychological, behavioral, neurological, and other conditions and symptoms, such as:
The new warnings regarding these cardiovascular incident reports note that the cardiovascular conditions resulting from injections of Haloperidol occurred when the injections were made directly into the patient’s vein and/or at higher doses than recommended. The FDA has only approved Haloperidol for injections into the patient’s muscle, not vein, but injections directly into the vein have become a relatively common, “off-label,” clinical practice.
