Michelle Barker, born and educated in West Virginia, joined Stewart Bell, PLLC, in 2018.
Michelle graduated with honors in 1997 from West Virginia University, earning a double major: a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Foreign Language; along with a minor in dance. In 2000, she earned her juris doctorate degree from the WVU College of Law. During her studies at the law school, Michelle competed in both Moot Trial Association and Moot Court Oral Advocacy Board on the national levels, earning her the Order of the Barristers distinction upon graduation.
She began her legal career as a law clerk in both the 13th and the 17th judicial circuits, where she gained extensive experience in both motion and trial practices. After completing her clerkships, Michelle represented corporate defendants in medical malpractice and products liability cases as an associate with Flaherty, Sensabaugh & Bonasso, PLLC. In 2004, Michelle was invited to clerk for the Honorable Robin J. Davis, Justice, West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals. Gaining extensive appellate experience, Michelle authored opinions on behalf of Justice Davis for almost twelve years. In 2015, Michelle opened her own, non-legal business, and enjoys her experience as a business owner but decided to return to the practice of law on a part-time basis.
Since joining Stewart Bell, PLLC, Michelle works mainly with ensuring the care and safety of our nursing home clients. She is admitted to practice in the State of West Virginia, and is a Certified Mediator pursuant to Rule 25.04 of the West Virginia Trial Court Rules.
In addition to her legal career, Michelle is an avid volunteer in the community, previously serving as President of the Junior League of Charleston, West Virginia, and as a past Board chair and volunteer for the local March of Dimes chapter. She lives with her husband and two children in the Elkview area, and her family is active in their local church.
